The BCPS Orchestra Assessments for Wednesday, March 15th have been cancelled and will be rescheduled for later in March. No word yet on when this will be, but it definitely WILL NOT be any time this week. Concert Orchestra, please spread the word!
On Saturday, November 7th, more than 30 AMS music students participated in the All-County Band, Orchestra and Chorus auditions held at Dumbarton Middle School. We are pleased to announce that the following students have been selected to participate in these prestigious groups:

On Monday, October 26th, students from the Lansdowne High School Academy of Arts and Communications visited AMS to showcase all of the wonderful performing arts opportunities at LHS for our 8th grade students. Featured were performances by students from Lansdowne’s Choral, Dance, Guitar, and Music Technology programs, including several former AMS students! Our thanks to Ms. Murray, Mr. Bassett, and Mr. Tracy for taking time out of their busy schedules to come and visit!

Today the Concert Orchestra, Arbutus Wind Ensemble, and Jazz Band performed at Catonsville, Arbutus, and Westowne Elementary Schools to promote interest in our instrumental music program at Arbutus Middle School!
A special thanks to our parent chaperons and our gracious hosts at CES, AES, and WES for helping us have such a successful tour!

This week featured our talented young musicians showcasing their talents in our Spring Concert Week! Congratulations to all our students who participated, you did an excellent job!

Our Spring Concert season is right around the corner and our music students are eager to show what they’ve learned this year! The concert schedule is as follows:
Monday, May 18th – 6th Grade Band, Orchestra, and Chorus
Tuesday, May 19th – 7th Grade Band, Orchestra, and Chorus
Wednesday, May 20th – 8th Grade Orchestra, 8th Grade Chorus, AWE
Thursday, May 21st – Honors Orchestra, Full Orchestra, Festival Choir, Show Choir, and Jazz Band
All concerts start at 7:00pm in the AMS Gymnasium and all performers need to report to their assigned location by 6:30pm. For more information, please see the Spring Concert Letter that went home with your music student.

Mrs. Boyle and Mr. Miskimon are currently participating in the Baltimore Music Educators Wind Symphony (BMEWS), an ensemble made up of music teachers from the Baltimore area that puts on a benefit concert every year for the Johns Hopkins Children’s Center. This Kids Helping Hopkins Benefit Concert will take place on Sunday, May 17th at 4:00pm in the Owings Mills High School auditorium. Below is a flyer with more details:

The Full Orchestra, 7th Grade Band, and 8th Grade/Festival Choir participated in the BCPS Orchestra, Band, and Chorus Assessments last week and all groups represented AMS very well! Visit our Assessments Results page to view our ratings and see full videos of the performances.
Last night the AMS Music Department hosted almost 100 5th graders from our feeder elementary schools for our 7th Annual AMS Side-by-Side Concert. All students had productive and engaging rehearsals from 4:15-5:15, and came back to put on a fantastic concert! Congratulations to ALL of the students who performed last night for showing that music is alive and thriving in the Arbutus area!
